Westville High School Students Raising Awareness about Homelessness

October 19, 2015

The Westville High sophomore class officers presenting two checks equalling $891.50 to Judith Giacoma principal, Pam Dalenburg and ROE representative, Tricia Osterbur Keith. Project this year: raising awareness and $ for the homeless youth in Vermilion County.

*The following in a blurb on Tricia Keith's facebook page.

I had a great morning with these students from Westville High School. Their teacher, Johnnie Hull educated her students on what "homeless" really means. I was able to share information and statistics with her and Pam Dalenberg (Judith Giacoma Principal and Westville School District Homeless Liaison) spoke to the class about families that she has been able to help in their OWN school district. This made an impact on the students and they took action! With Ms. Grites (Sophomore Sponsor) they held a dance and lock in at school as well as a jeans day - raising almost $900!!! They could have kept all of this money in their own school district but instead decided to share it with the entire county! Each school district homeless liaison will receive funds from the efforts of WHS - to help other homeless families! I absolutely love this - teachers and students leading by example - making an impact! Thank you so much!
