Academic Challenge

The Academic Challenge consists of seven tests created by the Worldwide Youth Science and Engineering Society, also known as WYSE. Twelve schools around the county compete in this event. Each school is required to send at least six students to participate but is able to send up to fourteen students, but sending up to fourteen gives the school a better chance at placing. The majority of the students are Juniors and Seniors, but all high school students are open to participate. There is a total of seven tests you can take but each student is only able to take two tests. The seven tests total are English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Computer Science, and Engineering Graphics. After students take their two tests, DACC provides a lunch for them. During lunch the scores are tallied up and then the awards will be presented at 12:45. This year Kaleb Smith places 1st in Biology, 1st in English, and 2nd overall in Biology. D.J. Nourie placed 3rd in Computer Science. Coleen Cruppenink placed 2nd in English. Emily Pinter placed 2nd in Mathematics. Killian Spencer placed 3rd in Engineering Graphics. Since everyone did so well, the entire team will be advancing to sectionals at EIU on March 7th.
